Jane Yancey

A Brief History of Conner Harrington RW
by Jane Yancey, President

We are entering our 35th year of being a Federated club.

During that time, there has seldom been a time that we have not had a member on the state board, or as a district or deputy director. Currently we have a Board Member and a District Director.

Our members have served as County Campaign Chairmen for such Republican from the top of the ballot down. Among those were Jim Collins, John Tower, Bill Clements, George W. Bush for Governor, President George Bush the first and President Bush the later. During the two campaign for George W.'s presidency, our members traveled to New Hampshire, Kansas, Michigan, Florida, and New Mexico at their own expense as members of the Mighty Texas Strike Force.

We spearheaded a write-in campaign to have a member of our club to become the first woman appointed to a Collin County Court at Law Bench. From there she went on to be a District Judge. Our club traveled and campaigned with her to be elected as the first woman (for that matter first anyone) from Collin County as a Statewide Official (Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals).

We campaigned and helped to elect one of our members to the Plano City Council. Worked in her campaign and helped to elect her Mayor of Plano and to the Texas Senate, where she still serves.

We helped to elect the first Republican Judge to a District Court in Collin County. Then several years later, we worked to elect him as the first member of the Court of Appeals from Collin County.

We pulled out all the stops and campaigned for the appointment of the first woman to the Collin County Commissioner's Court, were she continues to serve.

We have six members who have been named as the Texas Federation's Top Ten Republican Women in the state.

We have six members who have won the John McVeigh Award in Collin County.

We have two former SREC members and one current member of the SREC.

Currently, among our membership are two District Judges, one County Court-at-Law Judge, a County Commissioner, a District Clerk, a State Senator, a member of the Collin County Community College Board of Trustees, two Plano City Council members, a Plano Planning and Zoning Member, a Plano Parks Board Member, several Leadership Plano graduates, and several members of Collin County task forces and boards... and that is not even counting husbands of our members.

So you can see that we are a proud and busy working organization... of all the things I am most proud of in our club is the friendships we have formed and the sense of family we feel toward one another. I hope that we will work together this year to see a continuance of Republican elected officials in every office, locally, state-wide, and nationally. CHRW
